Of course like any “big” life decision we prayed for over two years regarding our steps to expanding our family.  In November of 2020, we made the first big step and signed up for an informational webinar with our adoption agency.   We then prayed more to make sure this was indeed the agency and path to adoption for us.  A week later, we contacted the agency and asked for next steps.   

Step I:  Application Process.  

To be considered for acceptance by early 2021, we had to have our application and preliminary paperwork in by December 15th.   The agency then reviews and decides whether you are a good fit for their agency.  

In mid January, we were told we were accepted; however the agency was at capacity and we would need to be placed on a waiting list for a short period or the agency could recommend other similar agencies in the area.  Again, we prayed.   We came to the conclusion that there was a reason we were lead to this agency and we knew wholeheartedly they held the same values and beliefs we did.   We let them know that we would wait for an opening.  

 2 months later, we received an email from the agency asking if we were still wanting to move forward as there was now room for us to move to the next steps.  Of course, we were very eager to move forward!

Step II: Preparing for the home study.
At this time we began collecting, compiling, and filling out all the paperwork for the home study.   Everything from criminal background checks (local and federal) to financial paper work.  This process took from March to May.  

Step III:  The home Study

In May, we had 3 home visits and interviews with our assigned social worker.  In the meantime, we have also been working on our profile book that the agency shows the birth parents.  This book gives a glimpse into what life will be like for their baby growing up in our home and with our family.  It’s one way they choose a family for their baby. 

Now we are up to date!  We just received our home study back and are making final edits on the details.  Once this is completed and signed, we will be ready for the next step in our journey.
