Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 22, 2018. He joined CGA Pre-primary One class in January 2024. Mahatma is the last born of two siblings. He lives with his mother in a rental single room tin house. His mother separated from the father because he was abusive, and he is not supportive in any way. The mother collects plastic along the beaches and sometimes on the islands to help her support her two sons. Mahatma sleeps on a mattress spread on the floor under a mosquito net shared with the mother. Their home is about a 30-minute walk from CGA, a 15-minute walk to the lake and a 5-minute walk to the shops. They buy treated government water from another compound and use it for drinking, and they fetch water from the lake for washing and cooking. They have a latrine in the compound that is shared with the neighbors. His older brother joined a boarding school on one of the Lake Victoria islands that offers almost the same program as CGA. They use electricity for lighting and charcoal or methane gas for cooking. The mother is grateful for having her son join CGA.
