Elyis Okinyi was born on November 26th, 2020. He will be joining Pre-Primary in January 2025. Elyis has three older siblings who are under the care of their widowed mother. The father died from a hippopotamus bite while fishing in Lake Victoria in mid-2023. Elyis older brother is in a boarding secondary school, while her two other siblings are in a day-public primary school. The young mother supports her family by selling fish at the local market. They live in a permanent house next to the lake. They fetch water from the lake for cleaning and cooking and get treated water from an organization in the neighborhood for drinking. They use solar for lighting and both firewood and charcoal for cooking. Elyis sleeps with the mother on a mattress and bed under a mosquito net. They share a pit latrine in the larger home compound with other relatives. Elyis’ mother is happy that her son has secured a chance at CGA.
