Elijah Okinyi was born on June 7th, 2014. He will join grade 2 in January 2025. He lives with his widowed mother and three siblings about an hour’s walk from school. His original home is in Mbita, however his father sold off their piece of land, and relocated to a different town, and died before settling his family. The widow returned to Mbita and currently lives in a one-room tin house building in a crowded community off Mbita – Homa Bay highway. The house has no furniture, and the children including Elijah sleep on a mat spread on the floor under a mosquito net. The mother does laundry for people and other menial jobs to support her family. They fetch water from the lake for cooking and cleaning and use firewood for cooking. The family uses solar for lighting. The mother is happy for the chance her son has secured at CGA.
