West Dallas is an under resourced urban community in the shadows of downtown Dallas, TX.  93% of the kids are on government-subsidized lunches.  Most of the children struggle to even graduate from high school with a current dropout rate of 65%.  West Dallas is a low-income, high-need area.  We need to do something to help the future of these children.

Serve West Dallas is a collaborative of ten faith-based inner city ministries and church partners.  Serve West Dallas has organized a collaboration of a large church, four faith-based organizations, and three other non-profits to provide services to the children and their families to eliminate those things that hinder a child's education.

Project SOAR is the first collaborative initiative under the umbrella of Serve West Dallas and is focused on education.  The project focuses on Dallas Independent School District (Dallas ISD) students, their families, and the schools themselves to progressively increase academic motivation; improve educational achievement; reduce truancy and school dropout; increase graduation rates; increase higher education entry rates; and build character and vales that will guide the spiritual, physical, emotional and social path of each child.

The project has a long-range perspective and will be developed through stages that begin with an elementary school focus and then the model will annually be extended horizontally and vertically, ultimately covering all seven elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school in West Dallas.  This integrated, collaborative service delivery model will have a collective impact over time on education outcomes in West Dallas.
