Restoring health through clean water

Along the plains of Nepal, contaminated ponds are often the only source of drinking water. Water borne diseases are ravaging villagers' bodies. Simple tube wells provide clean water that will restore health & hope to families for generations to come.

Living in the low-lying plains of Nepal are the Tarai Bashi  people.  They live simple lives in mud homes with no running water or electricity.  Last year, a small team of individuals visited this area.  As they walked through one of the many small villages, they stumbled upon a small pond.  Upon first observation, there was normal everyday business going on.  A child bathing.  Women washing clothes and gathering what may be clams for the night's dinner.  A water buffalo helping himself to a refreshing drink, as well as using it as a place to relieve himself of what he had drank earlier.

However, this water source is also being used for drinking and cooking.

Close observation can tell you that this pond is filthy, dangerous, and not a safe place for children to be around or be used as a resource for drinking.  The group found many of the villagers in poor health due to waterborne diseases, ranging from worms to typhoid.  Those who are fighting the hardest to survive are the children, pregnant women, and the elderly.

The group spoke to the local village leaders and inquired about the process of drilling tube wells that would be able to pump clean running water throughout the surrounding villages.  The process explained was much simpler than thought.  One tube well, with a surrounding cement slab, takes just 1-2 days to complete and lasts lifetimes with minimal maintenance.  Each well services 5 families and costs just $400 to install.  We are starting with one well, but our hope and dream would be to cover 25 families throughout the area with five different wells.

Join us in providing clean, pure drinking water for these families.  Help them drink to good health!
