What They Do
Lonnie and Debbie are blessed to work alongside each other in the mission field.
Lonnie’s heart for people allows him to partner with pastors by creating friendships, mentoring and discipleship. Lonnie oversees construction and development projects with partnering organizations and oversees the relationships Abba’s Pride has with multiple churches.
Debbie’s gift of teaching and love for discipleship allows her to play a vital role in Abba’s Pride’s partnering crèches. Debbie spends a majority of her time partnering with the teachers, by coming along side them for teacher training. The focal point is to equip teachers to provide wholistic care in order that children are fully school ready upon entering Grade R/Kindergarten. Her knowledge and experience in education allows her to excel in overseeing the curriculum development for Abba’s Pride.Lonnie and Debbie have fallen in love with South Africa and are committed to bringing the hope of Christ to orphaned children by coming alongside township churches. Their prayer and mission is to develop sustainable and reproducible ministries to further His kingdom.
About the Warrens
Lonnie and Debbie are high school sweethearts who have been together for over 30 years. They have the honor of being the parents of adult children James who is married to Kelsey, Michael, and Rebecca who is married to Josiah. They are the grandparents of David and Maddison Jones.
Lonnie worked for the Environmental Sustainability Department with the City of Virginia Beach until his retirement in 2012. Debbie is an educator at heart. After serving 12 years as a secondary educator she attended seminary and entered into full time ministry with Coastal Community Church as their Life Development Pastor. She has since earned her Doctor of Education in Adult Education and Staff Development.
Hear Their Hearts
The Warrens first felt the nudge towards mission in 2001 following a trip to the rural areas of China. Since that time Lonnie has led teams to France, Mozambique, and South Africa, and Debbie has served on teams in Jamaica, Mozambique, and South Africa.
Lonnie’s calling to the mission field in South Africa was confirmed during a message given by Pastor Niemand as he read: “How, then can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” Romans 10:14-15
Debbie’s affirmation occurred as they moved Rebecca into her freshman college dorm when the Lord whispered to her spirit, “I have given you three children to love. You have taught them about me. Will you not go and teach those that don’t know me?” Their church, Coastal Community, has had a longtime relationship with Eastside Community Church in Pretoria, South Africa. As a result of this relationship, the Lord led Lonnie and Debbie to make a commitment to serving in partnership with Eastside for five years.
