I am 18 years old and finishing my freshman year at Saint Louis University. I am studying forensics, and currently am a member of the Life Sciences Learning Community there. I have made two prior trips to Guatemala City with International Samaritan: the first in 2016 with other seniors at Jesuit High School to work in the schools and help with building, and the second in 2017 to work on the medical mission as a scribe.
This year's summer medical mission will treat over 900 patients in Guatemala City, Guatemala. The medical team will:
- Provide medical attention to all ages suffering from easily treatable but serious illnesses.
- Administer medicine and vitamins to clinic patients.
- Collaborate with community leaders to provide medical care to impoverished families living near the garbage dump in greatest need.
- Educate local community in the prevention of common illnesses.
- Work with local doctors to provide follow-up care for patients.
This community is a fantastic one to serve and I am very excited to be going back for a third time!
