Two years ago, we felt led to adopt a child internationally. When we said yes to that calling we didn'™t know that we would find out we were pregnant less than a month later! We definitely didn't know that my wife would leave her job to go on bedrest because of a difficult pregnancy. We didn't know that our son would be born 7 weeks premature and would spend 1 month in the NICU. We didn't know that my wife would have congestive heart failure from preeclampsia and we would become the famous family at the hospital who had patients at both the NICU and ICU. We didn'™t know that my son, after being released from the NICU, would be diagnosed with a birth defect known as Craniosynostosis and would require corrective skull surgery at only 3 months of age. We didn't know about the medical bills we would still be paying, or that the first country that we tried to adopt from would shut its doors, causing us to lose thousands, or the other surprises life gives us. What we certainly didn't know was the depth of God's faithfulness through it all. We didn't know about how God would provide for us each step of the way. We didn't know just the strength God can give you when you are in such pain. What we did know through it all, and what we still know, is that we are called to adopt a child. What we now know is that we want to adopt a daughter from China with a similar medical need as our son. We want to give her love, care, and a home where she will feel part of our family.
