Thirst No More and The Waters Church, Cabo are leading a coalition of local business and ministry leaders to bring relief to the southern Baja peninsula. On September 15 Hurricane Odile roared through Cabo causing millions of dollars of damage to the resort paradise and taking almost everything from those who live in #theothercabo. Few Americans or Canadians are aware of #theothercabo that is home to tens of thousands of Mexican nationals, trapped in the cycle of poverty. There is, however, a strong group of local leaders who have been involved in assisting these communities for years.
We believe this disaster will become a great moment for #theothercabo. More people than ever are becoming aware of the need to bring long-term solutions to this community.
TNM has delivered 450 PAKs of various sizes thus far along with thousands of gallons of water, tarps, and even more direct donations to the communities from our local partners. While continuing this effort, we are beginning to turn our attention to long-term solutions that will eventually lift the standard of living of #theothercabo for years to come.
Most of our partners know that increasing access to clean water is the first step necessary to breaking the grip of poverty on communities. In fact, the World Health Organization says the the ROI for every $1 invested in water and sanitation is between $3 - $34. Our experience is the greater the poverty, the greater the return on investment. This is a GREAT opportunity for #theothercabo.
TNM is sending in Sawyer water filters rated at 1 million gallons each and capable of filtering water at .1 micron. We will be installing many of these filters on 1100 liter (290 gallon) tanks. The tanks will be placed at churches and schools giving the best possible access to clean water. We will work with local community and ministry leaders to develop plans in each barrio that fit the needs of that community best.
Each filter costs approximately $50 after shipping and each complete water system will cost approximately $400. Our initial goal is to provide 10 full units with this fundraiser. 100% of the money we receive from this fundraiser will go to these water units in #theothercabo.
