On December 5, our Canopy NWA co-sponsorship team welcomed a family to Northwest Arkansas. They fled Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2005 and sought refuge in a Ugandan camp for 13 years. They are so happy to now have a home here in Arkansas.
We have already raised $1,100 to cover a small portion of the $8,000 costs to support a refugee family in the first 90 days of arrival. Those funds are being used towards the total expenses of securing housing, transportation, job training, cultural orientation, and other expense during that first 90 days.
Typically, refugee families are financially stable and independent after 90 days. However, upon arrival, it became clear that this family has additional needs that may delay them being financially independent at the three month mark.
If you have any questions about Canopy NWA or about refugees or refugee resettlement please visit http://www.canopynwa.org/faqs/ or any of our team members would be happy to discuss!
During this holiday season, please consider making a difference with your financial contribution.
