About
She Is ABLE is a national 501c3 that offers trauma-informed outdoor experiences to women recovering from trafficking, abuse, addiction, and exploitation. We seek to provide transformational experiences and healing to women that live on the margins of society. We believe that more heads are better than one, which is why we take a collaborative approach to our experiences. Our participants customize their activities, and we provide trained outdoor guides to provide a safe and empowering environment for our participants. In our inaugural year (2017), we offered 14 trips in 4 different states, impacting over 100 women. We are the feature piece in Outside Magazine this month, and we are hoping to triple the impact of what we did last year in 2018. Our differentiator is that we are the first in the outdoor industry to bring trauma education and training to the forefront of industry needs. Over the past 3-5 years, there has been an influx of outdoor programming to people recovering from trauma (Veterans, At-risk/urban youth, etc.). Unfortunately, there has not yet been a consistent training resource for guides to ensure that these participants are receiving an emotionally, mentally, and physically safe experience.
We are asking for $50,000 to help us build the first ever standardized trauma training for the outdoor industry. NOLS and REI have approached us asking us to become thought leaders in this space, and in creating a new standard in the industry, we in turn will provide the security measures to provide safe and educated experiences for all trauma survivors, not just our participants.
