Subject - Families in East Africa are fighting starvation - Help provide seeds and fertilizer for small scale farming.

Dear Friend,

For many months now, the people living in East Africa have been suffering due to famine. The situation has become dire, as they continue to struggle to survive. In our CDFI program area, animals, including wildlife and livestock, are dying because there’s no food for them.

All of the 231 families in our program area have at least one child with a disability. These families are now desperately fighting starvation along with the rest of Kenya and East Africa. As you know, their children are more vulnerable than most.

But there’s hope. In just two weeks, Kenyans are expecting spring rains, which they call the “long rains,” and we have an amazing opportunity to help in a proven and sustainable way. This is not a one-time emergency food distribution. What we want to do will help families for the long term.

The families in our program have already tilled and prepared their lands; they simply need a small amount of seeds and fertilizer to work their home gardens. By providing them this, CDFI can give them a hand up, not a handout, and empower them to grow food and provide for their families and livestock.

Again, these families are praying and believing in God to provide for their needs. They’ve gone ahead to prepare their land, not knowing where the seed or fertilizer will come from, but they remain faithful in God’s providence.  

For just $25 per family, you can help to provide maize (corn) and bean seeds as well as the fertilizer necessary to grow these vital crops. For 231 families, that means a total of $5,775.00 is needed to help support the families in our program to grow their own food and continue to provide for their children.

Because of the timing of the spring rains, this need is URGENT, and the funds are needed now.
