About this Fundraiser

Welcome to the experience of a lifetime!

We are super excited that you are interested in traveling with us to serve on the ADRA Connections (CNX) Warmth and Education Trip to Cusco, Peru! This is going to be an amazing experience and we will greatly improve the lives of the children from the mountain communities where we will be working.

Meaningful education is often impossible for students who live in the high-altitude mountain communities of the Andes near Cusco, Peru. Both cold weather and underdeveloped homes make even attending school a major challenge. On this trip, our group will work with ADRA Peru on the Warm Homes project to improve several family homes so that the children can thrive and will also work directly with the teachers and students in two of the local elementary schools.

We will install solar panels, build smokeless stoves, and insulate the interior of homes. We will teach English classes, exchange ideas with teachers, and meet with families to better understand their needs. We will leave a lasting impact that will transform the lives of the next generation, and ADRA Peru will support these communities when we leave.

Key trip information:

Dates  The trip will take place July 20 – 31, 2023.  ADRA CNX will have staff waiting for your group on July 20 at the Cuzco airport (CUZ) and will take you by bus through the beautiful city before heading to our base camp, which is a few hours away.

Accommodations  ADRA Peru has been working and supporting these communities for many years. Camp Chuquicahuana is ADRA's base camp for every group who comes in support of this project. We will stay at the camp every night, have our meals, meetings, and relaxation after work there each day. There is a dormitory, restaurant, and multi-purpose building. It is perfectly located in the center of scores of communities that ADRA is committed to assisting.

Check out the camp map location and promo video to learn more.

Project Location & Living Conditions  The project is in the high-altitude mountain communities of Palcoyo and Hanchipacha. The families that live here mostly subsist on agriculture--raising alpaca and growing potatoes. We will be supporting and working in the local elementary schools and in the homes of the students who attend the schools. Keep in mind that in the southern hemisphere, July and August are winter months, so be prepared for temperatures of High 65°F/ Low 30°F. Bring warm clothes and a rain jacket. Our dormitory is heated, but the mornings and evenings will surly be quite cold. Bring gloves and hats to stay warm. You will get to see firsthand why the Warm Homes project is so necessary.

Cost per Person  This trip actually costs $2,250 per person. $1,125 covers all the logistics like food, lodging, transportation, visit to Machu Picchu, and everything else we will do, while the other $1,125 is the contribution to the project in the form of materials, professionals, and on-going support. Our goal is to make this trip as affordable for our students as possible, we have therefore expanded the impact of the ADRA Connections Scholarship. A big thank-you to the private donors who make this possible.

  • Adults/Faculty$2,250 per person
  • Students$995 per person
  • These prices include food, lodging, transportation, tourism, travel insurance, translators, work experts, support staff – pretty much everything you’ll need to go on this trip. We will provide everything you need from the moment we pick you up at baggage claim in Cusco until we drop you back off 12 days later.

Airfare and Fees  You will have to coordinate your own airfare either as an individual or as a group. The cost of the airfare will not be sent to ADRA as you will give that directly to the airline. The cost of this trip does NOT include any visa fees, passport application fees, vaccinations, luggage fees, or transportation to/from airport in the USA. Basically, once you get to Cusco on July 26, we’ll take care of everything else.

Contacts  Work directly with the faculty at your school to discuss the group and travel details. Adam Wamack is the ADRA CNX team leader and will be your main points of contact for any specific questions you might have (students, parents, or anyone else are welcomed to ask questions). Once you register for the trip and start fundraising, you will receive the full Trip Guide with FAQs, packing list and more details about travel and the location where we’ll be staying, so keep an eye out for that. We hope to see you there,
