I didn’t really understand burnout until I started sitting across from pastors and nonprofit leaders who were running on empty but still showing up for everyone else.
These are people who care deeply, who give everything they have… and most of the time, they don’t have a place to rest themselves.
That’s why I serve at Refuge.
Refuge is a place where leaders can step away from the pressure and just breathe again. Out here, it’s simple—time on the water, fly fishing, good conversations, and space to actually be honest. No expectations. No spotlight. Just rest.
I’m a fly fishing guide, but honestly I do whatever needs to be done. Some days I’m guiding on the river, other days I’m washing dishes, or just sitting with someone who hasn’t had the chance to slow down in years.
This isn’t about a job for me it’s something I believe in deeply. I’ve seen what happens when leaders don’t get rest… and I’ve also seen what happens when they finally do.
If you feel led to be part of this, your support directly helps create space for these world changers to reset and keep going.
