Last November, the Camp Fire in Northern California burned over 150,000 acres and over 14,000 homes. It is considered the most destructive and deadliest fire in California history.
Walla Walla University has many current students and past alumni that have been affected by this disaster, and we want to help. So, this spring break we invite you to join us as we CARE for Paradise. Group participants will carpool from Walla Walla, or organize their transportation to travel to Chico, CA on March 21st.
Once there, lodging and food will be provided for registered volunteers. We will spend five days (trip ends on March 27th) partnering with Paradise Adventist Academy (PAA), Chico Oaks Adventist School and the local Adventist community equipping the interim site of PAA, as well as engaging with the broader community to provide emotional support and outlets for healing. Though the nature of the disaster response situation means that we will need to be flexible, some of the projects we will likely assist with include:
- RV/Temporary Housing Repair - Set-up of School Campus Wifi Network - 'Ministry on the Ridge' Property Beautification - Four Community Dinners - Intentional Kindess Outreach and Therapeutic Storytelling - Deck Weatherization - Distribution of kitchen kits individuals in FEMA housing
