For the past 6 years, Women of Hope International has been investing in the lives of women with disabilities in Sierra Leone. Life for our women is difficult on many levels. Many are viewed as cursed by God and not fully human. Many also come from surrounding villages into Makeni where we work in order to escape some persecution. With Women of Hope they have found a safe haven where they are valued and a community of people who understand their struggles.
Here are some of their stories:
Now our women want to reach out and share the hope that they have found to the isolated women in two villages surrounding Makeni, Magburaka and Kamakwie. This grassroots initiative will provide discipleship, counseling, and support for issues these disabled women face, such as:
- stigma of disability
- access to education
- extreme poverty
- malnutrition
- domestic violence
- depression
- assault
However, they need your help to reach these unreached women. The staff need extra funds to cover the travel costs and new programming that goes along with the huge task of advocating for a marginalized people group. Please consider helping us not only reach out to these women before (and if) they hit rock bottom but to also advocate for them in a culture that sees these daughters of God as demons.
‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ -Matt. 25:40
We are hoping and praying that this $4800 will be raised by the end of the month so that our women, who have already begun building relationships with women in Magburaka and Kamakwie, will be able to start sustainable programs for them in a timely fashion.
