BIG NEWS! We are going to Romania to build a home!
Our donation goal of $28,000 that will go towards the cost of materials & finishes needed for building one complete home for the Caminul felix Orphanage.
Caminul Felix is a unique orphanage typology which began over 25 years ago. They are 100% donation funded, and they go through great lengths to get funding from all over the world to stay active. It really is an amazing community. They are very close to being self-sufficient. They have land which they farm, a dairy farm where they get milk, and sell excess. They have an on sight mechanic who takes care of the vans and busses required to cart around 200 children, a carpenter on site who takes care of building any furniture, but also takes outside orders for extra revenue. Due to the amount of children each parent takes on, they are unable to take in severely disabled children. But they do have some children with minor disabilities. Many of those children are older and not able to work in a “normal working environment”. To help them, they have set up the Sunflower Shop where these children are able to learn skills and make money for themselves in a comfortable environment. Another great aspect of the village is that they have a hotel on site. Instead of paying for accommodation and meals off site, everything we will spend will go directly to the people we are helping.
In July of 2016 Porolissum Prietenie will be taking a team of roughly 40 volunteers to Romania to build a home. Our trip will run from July 1st to July 13th. The building of the homes are broken up into 3 stages; Foundation, Structure & Exterior, and Finish Interior. With the $28,000 we are looking to raise, will be able to work on and complete all three of these stages during our stay. Each stage will be completed on a different home, since time-wise, we could not work on one home consecutively. None-the-less we will have accomplished the work for one complete home by the time we leave.
Every donation is important and will enable us to help others in need. Please consider making a donation, but if you cannot, we would appreciate your willingness to share this with others who may be able to donate via Facebook, Instagram or any other of your favorite social media platforms.
Thank you so much for helping us accomplish something that's important and meaningful! You are an important part of making all of this possible!
Thank you,
The Porolissum Prietenie Team & Volunteers
