A Story of HOPE.
Matthew, Katherine, and their daughter Annette were overwhelmed by the need to find shelter and meet their basic needs, while also struggling with all the barriers of re-gaining housing: apartment application fees, security and utilities deposits, first month’s rent, etc. Annette shared that this was a really scary time for her, and Katherine and Matthew noted that their 6-month stay in emergency shelter put a strain on their relationship.
Through our HOPE program, we were able to give the family temporary financial assistance while they worked with a 7hills Case Manager on finding an apartment, getting food stamps, creating and implementing a household budget, and focusing on the future. Katherine shared that it “takes a lot to get back on your feet,” and that they could not have done it without the help of 7hills.
Today, Katherine is working full time and the family is able to cover all their expenses. She hopes to one day save enough to take a vacation. Matthew dreams of going back to school. Annette is enjoying school and has made a lot of friends. Katherine shared “you don’t realize how much you don’t appreciate the little things until you don’t have them. Like a brand new pair of underwear or a brand new pair of socks, or actually having a roof over your head. Things like that people take for granted. You realize the little things that you do have and are thankful for what you’re getting.”
At any given time, there are around 1,200 people experiencing some level of homelessness or housing insecurity in Northwest Arkansas.
At 7hills, our goal is to help these individuals and families not only
meet their basic needs, but also regain housing and stability. We do
this by providing evidence-based supportive services through our Day
Center and HOPE programs.
