Mission Shawnee Food Pantry Urgently Needs A New A/C Compressor Here in Oklahoma, we LOVE food. Our state is proud...
Here in
Oklahoma, we LOVE food. Our state is proud to be home to food geniuses like The
Pioneer Woman Ree Drummond, country cooking chef Trisha Yearwood, and food
enthusiasts Kevin Durant and Kristen Chenoweth (y'all know she loves her some
Sonic!). From our chicken fried steak, barbequed pork, famous Fields' pecan
pies and Oklahoma-grown wheat flour, food plays an integral role in the lives
of every Oklahoman. In times of celebration and mourning, around the family
dinner table, at the State Fair or while cheering on the Thunder—food nourishes
our bellies and sustains our memories.
But what do you do when you don't have money for food? When you have to choose
between paying bills, getting medication, buying diapers, or going to the
grocery store?
In the city of Shawnee, far too many of our neighbors have to face these
difficult questions every day. Mission Shawnee is working hard to alleviate
hunger for our most vulnerable citizens, ensuring over 600 families a month get
the food they need to survive, but we
have a major problem.
Our
food is melting.
We urgently need a new A/C compressor.
Here at Mission Shawnee we are grateful to own our own building, but face major
challenges because of the antiquated and dilapidated state of some of our
building’s most basic features. Most notably, as the temperatures reach 100+
degrees during the hot summer days, our food is spoiling because the building’s
A/C compressor unit is broken.
The volunteers at Mission Shawnee faithfully serve five days a week, despite
the oppressive heat, and work hard to get food to families as quickly as
possible before it spoils. Our desire is to continue serving our neighbors in
need, but in order to do that effectively, we need a new A/C compressor. And we
need your help. Will you partner with us
through a one-time donation to fight hunger in Shawnee? $8,500 is all
we need to keep our building cool and our food edible.
$8,500 means 600+ Oklahoma families can continue to get the temporary food assistance they need each month. At Mission Shawnee we are committed to a community that does not go to bed hungry.
And in the hottest months of the year, this is only a reality if we can keep our food fresh.
Join us as we nourish bellies and sustain memories of generosity in the lives of Oklahoma’s most vulnerable.
From one group of Okie food lovers to another,
thank you for your partnership and generosity.
