The Gateway to the Amazon

Eight months ago, my world was forever changed when I went on my first mission trip where I was able to share the gospel with the beautiful people of Haiti. Ever since, I've spent a lot of time praying and pondering, why me, God? Why was I born in America? Why was I chosen to be born into such luxury when someone else was born into such poverty and hopelessness? {And by luxury I mean having food, clean water, shelter, clothing, and access to healthcare, among many other things} The roles could have so easily been reversed. Luke 12:48 says, "From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked." I realized the reason I have been given more is not so that I can have more, but so that I can give more. The beauty of the gospel creates a burden for mission.

This is why my eyes filled up with tears as I found out I am one of the eleven pharmacy school students from McWhorter given the opportunity to go and serve on a medical missions team this summer. Alongside nurses, physicians, other pharmacists, and a team of evangelists and church planters, we are heading to Yurimaguas, Peru. Located along the Amazon River basin and surrounded by the rainforest, Yurimaguas is a thriving port city of 64,000 residents. In a place where medical knowledge is desperately needed, we will be sharing the love of God through medicine, and most importantly sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. I realize I cannot do this through my own strength; that is why I am relying on Him to provide for me and the people of Yurimaguas.

I do need your help as well! I would like to ask that you would pray for me and my team as we take on this journey to use the skills The Lord has given us for His glory. God works in amazing ways when His people pray. I would also like to ask if you would please prayerfully consider investing in the ministry by helping send me. I have to raise $2800 to cover the total cost of my trip by June. This cost includes medicine, eyeglasses, and other supplies we will be using on the trip. Hopefully, because you helped send me, many people will get the medical care they deserve and have the opportunity to hear and respond to the gospel.
