About this Fundraiser

The Maasai people are some of the most culturally distinct in the world.  Their beaded ornaments, body piercings, and dances have made them a draw for tourists from across the globe.  The semi-nomadic tribes live throughout northern Tanzania and southern Kenya, totalling roughly 1 million people.  Cattle herding is the mainstay.

The district of Arumeru is located in the northern Arusha region of Tanzania.  For centuries, the country was occupied by a series of empires until it was eventually colonized by the Germans.  After World War I, Britain assumed control until its independence.  The country’s strong history of stable governments makes it a rarity in an otherwise unstable part of the world.  Over 150 indigenous ethnic groups live within Tanzania’s borders today.

What We’re Doing

This expedition is a unique opportunity to serve the local Maasai tribes.  Our team will include veterinarians providing assistance to their livestock, a major source of subsistence for the people.  Throughout the week, we will also conduct community transformation initiatives that create business opportunities for the people and promote economic stability.

As we serve the people, it will provide new opportunities to share the Gospel with them.  When they receive Christ, believers will be organized into new small groups and churches that are cultivated by local partners.

This expedition is labeled “extreme” due to the remote location of these Maasai villages. We will drive rough roads to get there and walk quite a bit in the villages. Our home for the week will be tents.  If you have any questions, contact Sheila McCracken or Keith Screws for more information.  They can be reached at sheila.mccracken@e3partners.org and keith.screws@e3partners.org.
