On February 7th, Steph (that's me!) David (that's my husband) and Eric (that's my Dad) are entering the
family swim section of the Midmar Mile in South Africa. This is a mile-long swim in open water across a big lake. It is the largest competitive open-water swimming event in the world! We competed last year, but only 2/3 of our team finished. This year, we're more motivated to ALL finish because we're swimming to
raise money for iThemba Kids Camp 2015!iThemba Kids camp is in June, and iThemba is taking 50 kids from the impoverished community of Sweetwaters, South Africa to camp for 3 days. At camp, kids are mentored, have fun building new friendships and playing games, and learn about God.
We're asking all our friends and family to donate
$30 if you think all three of us can complete the mile,
$20 if you think just two of us will do it, and
$10 if you think just one of us can.
The
total cost to sponsor a child to go on iThemba kids camp this year is $120, and this year, iThemba is following Kids Camp (50 kids in June) with a Teens camp (50 teens in July). So this is the first time iThemba's fundraising for all 100 kids/teens in one go. We thought we would help them out.
Our goal with this swim is to raise enough money to send 30 kids/teens on camp!
Every penny that you donate through Pure Charity goes to the iThemba Kids Camp Cause through iThemba's US partner, Restoration Hope.
Here's a video from 2011 explaining what iThemba Kids Camp (and teens camp) are all about:
Thanks so much for supporting our cause!
