Sharing Holiday Cheer, Compassion, and Whole-Person Care
Join Loma Linda University Students for International Mission Service (LLU SIMS) in bringing holiday cheer, compassion, and love to the children of Pan American Health Services (PAHS), a nutritional rehabilitation center for children under five years of age located in the mountains of north-central Honduras.
For more than a decade, LLU SIMS teams have partnered with PAHS to support the center’s ongoing programs and activities, including services provided through its nutritional rehabilitation center and outpatient clinic. This meaningful international mission service experience offers students and faculty the opportunity to work alongside local healthcare professionals, support vulnerable children and families, and contribute to initiatives that promote health, healing, and wholeness.
Mission service activities may include:
Medical and Dental Clinics: Assist with community healthcare initiatives in collaboration with local healthcare professionals and within the scope of each participant’s training and authorization.
Mobile Clinics: Participate in outreach efforts that bring healthcare services and education to rural villages.
Public Health Education: Support educational programs that promote preventive healthcare, nutrition, wellness, and healthy practices for children and families.
Child Therapy Programs: Participate in appropriate therapeutic and developmental activities that support children’s growth, engagement, and well-being.
Christmas Celebration: Help organize and participate in a festive Christmas fiesta celebrating the children of PAHS and bringing joy to the holiday season.
Child-Centered Service and Fellowship: Spend meaningful time caring for, playing with, and encouraging the children, offering companionship, affection, and a nurturing presence.
While clinical outreach and community health initiatives are important components of this experience, one of the most meaningful aspects of the trip is simply being present with the children. Through play, shared activities, and genuine human connection, students have the opportunity to experience the profound impact of compassion, kindness, and service.
Guided by Loma Linda University’s commitment to whole-person care, this mission service experience invites students and faculty to share their skills, strengthen international partnerships, and make a meaningful contribution to the lives of children and families in Honduras. Participants will return with a deeper appreciation for global health, cross-cultural collaboration, and the enduring power of serving others with love and compassion.
