Sole Hope is very dear to my heart. I've been involved in some way for several years, and have now become a North Carolina Advocate. I have done everything from trimming, counting and packing shoe uppers, to having parties, collecting medical supplies, and reaching monthly goals. I am trying to reach these goals by the help of others like you. But, the best part is actually seeing this organization in action, with my own two eyes. I've been to Jinja four times with Sole Hope and every time I go, I love it even more.
Sole Hope is an organization that reaches out to the children and adults that have a parasite that gets into their feet and lays eggs. This happens because most of them don't own a pair of shoes. Sole Hope staff reach out to these children by going into the villages and have clinics to remove these parasites, or jiggers as they call them. After they are treated, they are given a pair of shoes. These shoes uppers are cut out of old jeans at shoe cutting parties, and then sent to Uganda where shoemakers and tailors sew and assemble them, which gives them an income. All of the shoes made are given to the children to keep their feet protected with a closed toe shoe.
