Reynosa is the largest city in the border state of Tamaulipas. It has roughly one million inhabitants. It is a very transient city, depending heavily on the foreign run factories to supply a labor source. Despite the issues that plague this border city, God is transforming Reynosa.
Isaiah 55 Ministries works among the Deaf and marginalized to make disciples, encourage the worship of Jesus, and promote justice and reconciliation. Isaiah 55 operates two schools for the Deaf, Instituto Isaías 55 and Centro de Oficios Serdán.
Instituto Isaías 55 is geared toward school-age children and the focus is to introduce deaf children to: a language (Mexican Sign Language), an education, and the Gospel.
Centro de Oficios Serdán is a vocational/trade school where the Deaf can learn welding, sewing, and carpentry.
Volunteer Work Teams have made the construction of school facilities for the Deaf a reality. When not working on the school, teams have opportunity to support the community through other projects including the construction of shelters, dining halls, ministry spaces, and community centers which are used to build community and support other ministries.
Volunteer Ministry Teams work in the neighborhood immediately surrounding the mission called Aquiles Serdán. The Aquiles neighborhood has long been the home of prostitution and drug trafficking. Our team will help with a Vacation Bible School taking place this week with the neighborhood children at the community center.
