About this Fundraiser

Please join us in creating a legacy in memory of Kelvin Kleinman

Kelvin lived to fish. Those who know Kelvin and shared his passion for fishing describe themselves as those who fly fish, whereas Kelvin was a fly fisherman. He totally immersed himself in all aspects of the sport, and eagerly shared his intimate knowledge of the sport with those fortunate enough to spend the day in or on the water with him. It is from that desire to teach and share that we introduce the Mayfly Project.

The Mayfly Project is a national non-profit that is changing the lives of children in foster care across the country. Our mission is to mentor children in foster care via the sport of fly fishing, and provide opportunities for children in foster care to have fun, build self-esteem, and develop a meaningful connection with the outdoors.

The children that participate in our projects learn the basics of fly fishing, join in our conservation initiative efforts, and receive 1:1 mentoring at our outings. When each project is completed, each child receives their own curriculum, specialized buttons for participating in the program, fly rod setup, and all the gear they need to continue to pursue fly fishing. Our project has a short-term and long-term impact on the lives of the children in our program--they get to take a break from worrying about life in foster care, but they also are learning new coping mechanisms, building a positive connection with the outdoors, and improving their self-esteem through fly fishing successes. It costs $780 per child to equip them with all materials and gear needed for a successful introduction to fly fishing. Our goal is to raise $3900.00 to provide the Mayfly Project experience for 5 foster children here in Washington.
