Jamaica was directly struck yesterday (October 28) by the incredibly powerful and destructive Hurricane Melissa. We desperately need your help to raise funds for disaster relief at West Haven Children’s Home and in the surrounding areas!

Power and communications are currently down all over the island. While we have heard from several of our ministry partners in Montego Bay, we have not yet received any word from West Haven regarding the well being of the nearly 100 residents there. I will let you know as soon as we do.

West Haven will undoubtedly need assistance to recover from this catastrophic storm, which is why we are moving forward immediately to raise emergency funds.

Funds raised will go directly towards relief and reconstruction efforts at West Haven which may include:
 

• Gasoline to run generators for cooking, laundry, and water pumps
• Emergency food and water
• Nutritional supplements, vitamins, medications, and basic first aid supplies
• Construction/building supplies
• Diapers, wipes, and various hygiene related items
• Flashlights, batteries, lanterns and other emergency items

West Haven is located in a mountainous area approximately 10 miles inland from Montego Bay. It may be several days or longer until we hear details of how the home fared from the storm. While we wait, here are some things you can do:
 

• Pray for the staff and residents at West Haven Children’s Home. Pray that the Lord will comfort and protect them, and that they will be able to communicate soon regarding their safety status.
• Pray for divine connections for organizations doing work in Jamaica and the many people desiring to help at this scary time.
• Pray that the roads and bridges leading up the mountain to West Haven can be made quickly accessible if they were washed away.
