An Endurance Race for Heartline Ministries

In the fall of 2013 I learned about a wonderful organization in Haiti known as Heartline Ministries. As I learned more about the work this organization was doing and as I read about the people, particularly the women and children, that Heartline served, I fell in love with Haiti and with Heartline. At the beginning of 2014 Heartline announced a fundraiser led by their co-director, Beth McHoul. Beth kicked off a year-long effort to raise $260,000 for Heartline by running the Boston Marathon on April 21st. The goal of $260,000 (or $10,000 for every mile of Beth's marathon) equals the total operational costs required to run all the women's programs offered by Heartline for one year.

Beth and Heartline Ministries invited anyone who wanted to support them in their work of serving the people of Haiti to join in the fundraising efforts. I am excited to support this cause by running the St. Louis Rock-n-Roll Half-Marathon on October 19th of this year. My individual goal is to raise $5,000 - the total operational costs required to run Heartline's women's programs for one week.

Greetings from Haiti!

Beth McHoul, a Boston native, has been living and working in Haiti for 25 years.

Beth was invited to run in the Boston Marathon on April 21, 2014. She trained on the streets of Port-au-Prince in preparation for this amazing event and opportunity. She hopes to raise funds and awareness of Heartline's work via her endeavours - from Haiti to Heartbreak Hill.

She and her husband John are the founding directors of Heartline Ministries in the capital city of Port-au-Prince.

Heartline Ministries consists of:

Women's Education Center - cooking, sewing, literacy, and art classes

Maternity Center - labor and delivery services plus pre-natal and postpartum care, early childhood development classes

Men's Discipleship Program/Bakery - Biblical training and instruction coupled with vocational training

Guest House - a home for travelers and visitors to Port-au-Prince

Heartline Ministries is not simply a collection of programs. Our staff, missionaries, supporters, donors, sponsors, and volunteers are the Body of Christ, running towards a mission.

Our mission is to intentionally walk alongside impoverished men, women, and children in Haiti, meeting critical physical, emotional, financial, educational, and most importantly - spiritual needs.

It takes a marathon-type effort to be successful with our mission.

"This particular 26.2 mile run is personal. This is my grand finale as an aging marathoner training in the midst of a third world city. Also, my run is public. I am asking supporters everywhere to pledge money towards Heartline Ministries in Haiti to fight poverty and injustice."
