My name is Gillian Brogna and I am a May 2021 Summa Cum Laude graduate of the University of Alabama Capstone College of Nursing.
I obtained my Registered Nursing license in the state of New Jersey in July of 2021 and have been working with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center as an Infusion nurse since.
Originally, I was supposed to attend a medical mission trip to Monze, Zambia in May of 2019, but due to COVID-19 the trip was canceled indefinitely. Fortunately, I was granted the opportunity to attend another medical mission trip in Athens, Greece.
Due to political unrest across the world, millions of Afghan and Ukrainian refugees escaped their homes in search of safety and ultimately a better life in Athens. This trip is unique in that it allows me the opportunity to touch the lives of people from all over the world in need, not just locals. Many of these refugees are children who had to escape their home country alone and figure out how to navigate a new life for themselves in another country.
There is nothing more important to me than continuing my education in order to be the best practitioner possible for those who rely on me. This trip is a once in a lifetime opportunity that will allow me to continue to grow and flourish in my career and learn a greater appreciation for the world around me.
No monetary amount is too small. If you are willing/able to donate anything other than money, please let me know and I can bring it with me on my trip.
Since I began this journey in 2019 with my anticipated trip to Zambia, I have received an overwhelming amount of love and support with my decision to serve. I cannot express my gratitude for those who have been so gracious in lending a helping hand.
