About this Fundraiser

Aaron (*not his real name) is a young man we met at the main facility where we work. His story reflects unmet medical need. From our very first interaction, he complained of persistent pain in his lower limb , which was visibly deformed at the tibial area . Following thorough medical evaluation, he was diagnosed with chronic osteomyelitis which is a long-standing bone infection known to progressively damage bone structure if not fully corrected.

In 2019, Aaron underwent surgery to remove the infected bone tissue. While this procedure successfully controlled the infection, it did not correct the structural deformity left behind. As a result, he continues to live with chronic pain and impaired mobility.

After careful assessment the orthopaedic surgeon recommended a corrective osteotomy which is a specialized surgical procedure that involves reshaping and realigning the affected bone. Evidence shows that corrective osteotomy is highly effective in restoring proper limb alignment, significantly reducing pain, and improving function in patients with post-infectious deformities like Aaron’s. This intervention offers him a real chance to walk comfortably again and regain independence.

The total cost of this life-changing procedure is $3,000  which will comprehensively cover:

• The surgery

• Hospital stay and nursing support

• Essential blood tests and pre-operative investigations

• Post-operative support, including crutches for rehabilitation

The surgery will significantly help reduce pain .

Thank you for helping me make a difference!
