Hello all! I have been presented with an amazing opportunity to serve the wonderful people of Cuba during my final year of graduate school at Loma Linda. Anyone who knows me knows that I love to help others and I have always wanted travel abroad to serve.
This opportunity was presented to me through the missions office. Students for International Mission Service or SIMS exemplifies the Loma Linda's commitment to global service, incorporating international service opportunities into academic curriculum in order to prepare health professions students for a career of effective global service and to promote the health of global communities. SIMS’ mission to provide students with high-quality service-learning opportunities empowers them to become caring, competent, and socially responsible health professionals who value service as a lifelong process.
We will be a group of students from different educational backgrounds. The multidisciplinary team will provide healthcare education and assessment to the local community- interacting with community members and local schools to promote health wholeness. -Health education workshops -Community-based health fairs in conjunction with local healthcare providers -Primary and secondary school health education -Family seminars -Vacation Bible school activities
If you can and are willing to donate to this amazing experience, I would be very appreciative. If you can not give monetarily, I would love prayers and words of wisdom as I embark on my journey.
There are several students going on this trip and many others around the world during the breaks we have from class. If you have the time and money, check out their fundraisers and donate to them also!
