EMPOWERING ORPHANS TO OVERCOMEPOVERTY, ABANDONMENT AND VIOLENCE.Mission

Children’s HopeChest exists to glorify God by ensuring holistic care to orphaned and vulnerable children that enables them to live as faithful, productive, and whole adults.

Children’s HopeChest develops highly relational, community-to-community partnerships between Christian communities in North America and communities of orphaned and vulnerable children in 10 countries. We believe the most transformational, holistic, sustainable, and long-term change occurs when one community partners with another.

Children’s HopeChest has active partnerships in Russia, Swaziland, South Africa, Ethiopia, Uganda, Haiti, Guatemala, Moldova, India, and the United States.

History

Children’s HopeChest was founded in 1994 in response to the devastating need of orphans in Russia following the fall of the Iron Curtain. These children had serious basic needs – for clothing, food, medical and facilities – but more compelling was their need for love, human interaction and care, and future hope. In response, Children’s HopeChest developed a holistic approach which meets medical, physical, educational, emotional, and spiritual needs of orphaned children and youth, in fulfillment of our mission.

Strategy

Children’s HopeChest connects Christian communities in the U.S. and Canada with impoverished communities of orphans overseas.  This unique “community-to-community” sponsorship leverages the power of one community of Christians making a long-term, transformational impact on a community of orphans and vulnerable children. Ultimately, these relationships and resources empower orphans to survive, thrive, and succeed within their home culture.

Funding for these partnerships comes, in part, from a monthly child sponsorship program. Individual child sponsors provide a $34/month donation, write letters, and pray for their sponsored child. This funding provides for direct survival needs such as food, water, clothing and basic medical care. It also helps fund educational support, voluntary Christian discipleship, and emotional guidance.

Children’s HopeChest also provides both capital project development and ongoing program support to help children develop opportunity, life skills, and independent adult life. Those programs include:

  • Transitional Living & Life Skills Programs: Family Centers & Independent Living Programs (Russia), the Youth Development Project (Ethiopia), Restoration Home for Trafficking Victims, (Moldova) and the Joel Home (U.S.)
  • Community Programs: Ministry Centers (Russia), Young Mothers Program (Russia).
  • Education: Swaziland Leadership Academy (Swaziland), and Good Samaritan School (India)
Bringing Local Stories to a Global Audience

HopeChest tells the stories of children who are experiencing poverty, abandonment, and violence. We do this in a way that respects the child’s dignity and worth.  We want to showcase them as a special creation, made in the image of God. There are many people who help bring those stories to life, writers, designers, photographers, videographers, and printers for brochures and postcards.

Who We Partner With

HopeChest partners primarily with churches, businesses and Christian communities such as blogs, online groups, book clubs, and small groups. These sponsoring communities are providing help, training, and discipleship for over 10,000 orphans.  HopeChest has over 100 active partnerships in Russia, Swaziland, South Africa, Ethiopia, Uganda, Haiti, Guatemala, Moldova, and India.

What We Believe

HopeChest was founded as and remains to this day an evangelical Christian organization. Our statement of faith affirms our core beliefs and doctrine. In practice, we believe strongly in putting faith into action as an expression of our faith in Jesus Christ. In the tradition of Matthew 25, we believe in demonstrating the power of the gospel by meeting earthly needs within a spiritual context and for an evangelical purpose. Our ministry is demonstrative, hands-on, and purposeful in our faith. We have been accused by some as too Christian, and by others as not Christian enough. It is our heart to incarnate the agape love of Jesus Christ to every orphan we minister to and, in doing so, bring them into wholeness in this world and eternal life for the world to come.
