LLU Students for International Mission Service (SIMS) prioritizes participation in international mission service trips for currently enrolled Loma Linda University (LLU) students. Non-LLU student applicants must place their names on a waitlist and may be considered for participation only after priority has been given to eligible LLU students and space is available. Placement on the waitlist does not guarantee acceptance or participation in the mission service trip. Final selection is subject to program capacity, eligibility requirements, and SIMS approval.
Promoting Global Health, Compassion, and Wholeness
Loma Linda University Students for International Mission Service (LLU SIMS) invites students and faculty to participate in an international mission service experience in Thailand in partnership with local healthcare providers, community organizations, and other local partners. Through collaboration and service, the team will engage with local communities to support health education, community wellness, and initiatives that promote whole-person care.
Working alongside local partners, participants will have opportunities to learn about community health priorities, share their knowledge and skills, and contribute to culturally responsive service activities. This experience will foster meaningful cross-cultural relationships while supporting local efforts to improve health awareness, strengthen community connections, and advance health and well-being.
Mission service activities may include:
Health Education: Participate in educational workshops focused on preventive healthcare, wellness, healthy lifestyles, and community-identified health priorities.
Community Health Outreach: Engage with local community members and families to promote health awareness and provide practical health education.
Health Assessments: Assist with appropriate health screenings and assessments in collaboration with qualified local healthcare professionals and within the scope of each participant’s training and authorization.
Community Service: Support local partner initiatives and community-based projects that address identified needs and promote well-being.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work alongside students, faculty, local healthcare professionals, and community partners to share knowledge and strengthen collaborative relationships.
Cultural Learning and Exchange: Develop a deeper understanding of Thai culture, local perspectives on health and wellness, and the importance of culturally respectful approaches to service.
Through this international mission service experience, LLU students and faculty will broaden their global health perspectives, strengthen their commitment to compassionate service, and gain valuable insight into the role of collaboration in advancing community health.
Guided by Loma Linda University’s commitment to service and whole-person care, the team will seek to build meaningful partnerships, support locally identified priorities, and promote physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being. This experience reflects the mission of LLU SIMS to prepare students to serve with compassion, cultural humility, and a commitment to health and wholeness around the world.
Star Cleghorn Sparks and 13 others are participating in this trip.
