In 2008, Villa Esperanza was established as a safe haven for young girls who had been abused and were at-risk in La Chureca. Initiated by a local Nicaraguan woman, Villa Esperanza became a place for girls to live in a safe home, receive nutritious meals and clean water, medical and psychological care, education and tutoring, vocational training, and emotional support.
Over the years, the Villa has been able to expand and are now able to additionally offer a scholar’s program, discipleship for boys, and other outreach programs for at-risk children in the community. Queue: LOTS of soccer.
Our team will have the honor of traveling to Managua, Nicaragua to spend time with this resilient, compassionate, beautiful community. We aim to bring with us a presence of encouragement, loving kindness, and FUN to remind each person we encounter that they are seen and offer an invaluable presence to the world. We do this through providing a day at the beach for the Villa's staff and girls, planning daytime activities for kids in the community, LOTS of soccer, eating meals together, painting, bracelet making, schoolyard cleaning, laughing and praying together.
We will also be transformed and learn from our friends in ways that will likely affect the way we exist in the world - in the best way possible. So, we invite you to come with a humble heart, an open mind eager to learn, and a hopeful expectation to encounter profound beauty, learning to hold sorrow and joy at the same time.
