LLU Students for International Mission Service (SIMS) prioritizes participation in international mission service trips for currently enrolled Loma Linda University (LLU) students. Non-LLU student applicants must place their names on a waitlist and may be considered for participation only after priority has been given to eligible LLU students and space is available. Placement on the waitlist does not guarantee acceptance or participation in the mission service trip. Final selection is subject to program capacity, eligibility requirements, and SIMS approval.
Loma Linda University Students for International Mission Service (LLU SIMS) invites students and faculty to participate in an international mission service experience in Nepal, working closely with Scheer Memorial Adventist Hospital in Banepa. Through this partnership, an interdisciplinary team will collaborate with local healthcare professionals to support healthcare education, community outreach, and initiatives that promote health, wellness, and whole-person care.
This experience offers students and faculty the opportunity to learn alongside local healthcare providers, exchange knowledge, and gain insight into the healthcare needs and cultural perspectives of the communities served. By working collaboratively with hospital staff and local partners, participants will contribute to community-centered initiatives while strengthening their understanding of global health and culturally responsive care.
Mission service activities may include:
Healthcare Education: Support educational activities focused on preventive healthcare, healthy lifestyles, and community wellness.
Nursing and Clinical Learning: Collaborate with hospital staff through appropriate educational and service activities consistent with each participant’s training, qualifications, and authorized scope of practice.
Maternal and Child Health: Support education related to maternal wellness, newborn care, nutrition, and family health.
Rehabilitation and Functional Wellness: Participate in appropriate activities that promote mobility, independence, and quality of life in collaboration with local professionals.
Community Health Outreach: Engage with local patients, families, and community members through health education and outreach initiatives developed with local partners.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work alongside students, faculty, and Scheer Memorial Adventist Hospital personnel to exchange knowledge, strengthen partnerships, and support locally identified healthcare priorities.
Through this international mission service experience, LLU students and faculty will broaden their global health perspectives, develop cross-cultural understanding, and learn from the experience and expertise of Nepalese healthcare professionals. Participants will gain valuable insight into the role of collaboration, education, and compassionate service in supporting individuals and families.
Guided by Loma Linda University’s commitment to service and whole-person care, this mission service trip emphasizes cultural humility, meaningful partnerships, and compassionate engagement. Together with Scheer Memorial Adventist Hospital, the team will seek to support healthcare education, strengthen community relationships, and promote physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being.
Serve with compassion. Learn through collaboration. Promote health and wholeness.
