About this trip

ABIDE MTB ADVENTURE

Overview: What compass are you using to navigate your way through this world? What are you orienting to when chaos comes, things seem clouded and unclear? Also, wanna ride some of the best dirt Colorado (or the world for that matter) has to offer? While the answer to the first questions takes time, reflection and deep consideration, the answer to the last one is pretty simple. Of course you do. So say yes to the easy one and we’ll work our way through the others together.

Cost: The cost is $1400* per participant based on 9 riders. This includes all transportation to and from Colorado if driving and all transportation in Colorado for everyone (airfare and airport transfers are not included). It also includes lift tickets, bike and gear transportation and shuttling to and from NWA and in Colorado. All lodging, all meals, beverages and fuel while riding. An Abide Collective Adventure tech shirt and journal are included as well. Not covered are airfare, airport transfers, meals when we eat out, bike gear, your bike or bike rental.

Details:

Tuesday September 14: Gear drop off and packing in NWA

Wednesday September 15: Advance group will split 0 dark thirty with bikes and gear and make the numbing drive across the great Kansas moat to the glorious mountains of Colorado.

Thursday September 16: Those who can’t make the drive fly in early to Denver and catch the shuttle to Vail or fly directly into Eagle/Vail airport. Pick up bike rentals for those renting and go for a quick acclimation ride. Supper and crash at our housing.

Friday September 17: Gear up and hit the lifts to the top of the mountains. Ride the monster downhills while getting used to the altitude and beauty of the high country.

Saturday September 18: Wake up early and head to catch out shuttle taking us to the top of Monarch Pass. We’ll ride the IMBA Epic Monarch Crest trail taking us up to almost 12,000 feet and nearly 6000 feet of decent.

Sunday September 19: Today we explore the very expanding trail system around Edwards, Avon and Midturn riding through high mountain meadows, alpine forest and taking in breathtaking views.

Monday September 20: Group flying out* heads to the airport while group driving back gets one more day to ride the high altitude trials of the Vail Valley.

Tuesday September 21: Driving group up early to head back to NWA

*There is the possibility to stay and ride and fly out on Tuesday, but transportation to Denver and lodging there or in the Vail Valley if flying out of Eagle is on your own.

Gear: This is serious mountain biking. You’re going to need a trail worthy ride and dedicated gear. We’ll have tools and support equipment but come prepared with gear you need specific to your bike. Appropriate clothing is also a must. Do the research and bring what you need to ride hard for 3-4 days. The weather is classic early fall high alpine, really dry with highs in the 70-80’s during the day and 30-40’s at night. IThe sun can be intense at that altitude and while there’s shade, be prepared for hours in the direct sun. We can hit up local stores if you forget anything, but it will be at resort prices.

*The Abide Collective is not a professional guide service. This trip is a group of friends traveling together and sharing the costs. This is not a fee for professional outfitting.
