Thanks to your support, we raised almost $2000 to provide clean drinking water for a village in Burundi. When we started this fundraiser our plan was to drill a well at a cost of $5000 to provide clean water for 250 people. Progress was slow, but God had a plan. Several months ago we were blessed with a connection to the Imagine Terimbere Foundation (
http://imagine-burundi-terimbere.com/). Imagine has constructed a water tank in Kamakara, Burundi as part of a community project. We had already provided Imagine with 2 water purification units through our friends at Hays Pure Water for All, so partnering on another water tank seemed like a good next step.
It turns out that Imagine was planning to build a second tank as part of the Kamakara community project. Together the two water tanks will supply clean water for 375 families. We suggested that SHAPE sponsor the second tank with the funds we have raised on Pure Charity. This would not only help Imagine provide a much needed second tank in Kamakara, but it also happens that that the community is in the same province where we had planned to drill a well.
We are grateful for all of our supporters who helped make this water tank a reality. This will be the first time many of these families have had access to clean water. We'll post an update when the tank is completed sometime later this year. I've attached a photo of the first tank that was built in Kamakara to give you an idea of what the tank will look like. Fresh water is piped down from the mountain and fills the tank.
