“A” went to the airport Sunday to leave us (for the last time!) from winter hosting, and we were to leave for Ukraine Monday to attend court on Wed.
Due to an incredible snowstorm last Sunday, his flight was cancelled and 6 Ukranian kids and a chaperone found themselves stranded in Washington DC.
Sunday night I was told that they would all be spending 2 nights in DC and flying out Tuesday. I was told tickets were booked, and I knew this would mean our court date would not happen.
So, after inquiring from everyone I could think of, I realized this was not in my control, so A and I agreed we would pray and ask God to get him home for court. He said “I will ask” .
I woke up Monday to find out they had been booked on a flight that would be leaving an hour before us and landing an hour after us! So, court happened as planned! God answered our prayers and I’m so thankful for no more delays!
Court was not easy. “A” sat by me and told me several times “I’m scared”. I was too! They asked some questions of us all that seemed unusual. Poor “A” was even asked if my older son ever beat him! Anyone who knows Jonah will laugh at that one! But in the end, we were declared adopters, which means it is official!
Now we have a 30 day wait and we return to take custody of him and go through more paperwork on his way out of the country. Please pray the process is succinct and abbreviated. Our facilitator says it is possible we could get things done within a week but it could be as much as 3 weeks. If that is the case, I will return home after a week and Adam will stay in country to finalize things with “A”. We would love to wrap this all up as soon as possible.
