Bizunesh was a recipient of a cow and sheep in 2013 as part of our Widows’ Hope Livestock Project. Because of this, her family has had milk to drink, milk to sell, and offspring to sell. Her children are healthier and she’s been able to make necessary repairs to her family’s home. Recognizing the success of our Widows’ Hope Livestock Project, we’re excited to invite you to partner with us in another great opportunity to help empower women and their families.

We have seen how effective the livestock project is, and now we’re asking for support to fund a new Widows’ Hope Crops Project. We’re excited about this project, because like the livestock project, it is set up to become self-sustaining. Widows like Bizunesh will initially be supplied with tools, improved seed, fertilizer, and educational support. When their crops come in they will pay a small fee back into the program toward the next year’s seed and fertilizer. Our partner, FOVC, tells us that when they have supported widows like this on a small scale, they have increased production by 2-3 times the normal harvest.

The overall cost of this project is $32,000 and will deeply impact the lives of 100 women and over 1,000 of their immediate family members. Widows like Bizunesh will be given an economic hand up. You’ll be empowering them to meet their family’s basic needs and provide their children with more nutritious food. We have already received a generous $20,000 donation.
