Why help Peru?

Today, the main sources of water for Peruvians consist of contaminated rivers, canals, and wells . Almost all of the water that Peruvians drink today does NOT meet standards set forth by the World Health Organization. Although Peru is slowly making improvements to their filtration systems, many rural areas in Peru still lack access to a clean water source. 

According to UNICEF, the lack of access to a clean, sustainable source of water can result in:

• Poor Hygiene and Health
• Children – and particularly girls – are denied their right to education because  their schools lack private and decent sanitation facilities. 
• Women are forced to spend large parts of their day fetching water. 
• Poor farmers and wage earners are less productive due to illness, health systems are overwhelmed and national economies suffer.

How Water Team International Wants to Help!

Today, 6,000 children die every day due to  water borne diseases. The Rotary Club of Lakewood Ranch, Florida intends to lessen this problem by supplying products and services which will supply clean drinking water in Peru. With clean drinking water, children will have the opportunity to live healthier and more productive lives. 

                   

We will partner with Water Missions International who will help to install the filter and make sure the system meets sustainable standards. The Host Rotary Club will also help to assist them as needed.

                              

Your dollar matters!

The project will be done as a Rotary Global Grant so every $1.00 donated has the opportunity to grow to $3.50 through the Rotary Matching Program.

So how does this work?                

If a Rotarian club donates $1.00  the District has the opportunity to match the club's donation, so it can turn into $2.00. The Rotary Foundation then matches the District at 100%  and matches the club at 50%, which results in the Foundation donating $1.50, therefore making YOUR $1 TURN INTO $3.50!

Want to Receive the Paul Harris Fellow Credit?

If a Rotarian makes a donation of $50.00 or more, the donation will be considered a direct donation to the Grant so the Rotarian will receive Paul Harris Fellow credit. All donations will be tax deductible and everyone will receive a receipt.
