Hello Family and Friends!
A LOT has been happening with our adoption journey in the last few months.
1) After much prayer, we changed our international adoption agency to Nightlight Christian Adoptions to have them facilitate our international adoption. Countless hours have been spent exchanging phone calls, emails and submitting required documents.
2) We retained the services of Evangelical Child and Family Agency for our local home study. Months of personal meetings with the social workers, pastoral staff, letters of recommendations, hours of training, countless phone calls, emails, completed forms and documents, fingerprints, background checks and medical exams. Just as the finish line was in sight, the unthinkable happened! ECFA's building had a terrible fire! Their files and computers were sent to a fire cleaning/preservation company. To save weeks of delay, we resubmitted several documents again! It was a sobering reminder to pray for those on the front lines of helping orphans! GOD IS GOOD AND ALL THE WORK WAS WORTH IT! WE NOW HAVE AN APPROVED HOME STUDY!!!
3) In the midst of working on our home study process, Nightlight asked us if we would prayerfully consider a young girl in the waiting program of Hong Kong, who is currently 8 years old, with no identified special needs. Her name in English is SAVANNAH! We cannot share many of the details about her or a photo yet, but Jorge, Samuel, and I prayed for God's clear direction. We all had a unified peace to pursue adopting Savannah, so we said, "Yes!" Then we quickly began the next step...submitting an application to "International Social Service (ISS) Hong Kong Branch Adoption Programme - Adoption of Children from Hong Kong by Overseas Families".
4) Next we completed our I-800A Form and submitted it to USCIS - Department of Homeland Security to request permission / determine suitability to adopt a child from a convention country (Hong Kong). We received confirmation of receipt, have an appointment for Biometrics next Monday, August 20th and hope to receive their approval quickly!
5) In the meantime, we are working on compiling all of the required documents to submit our dossier to Hong Kong - one of the final steps required to receive their approval to adopt Savannah. We also continue to answer questions that arise from Hong Kong while they are determining if we are the best family for Savannah and her needs. A recent report card resulted in an educational evaluation and it was determined Savannah has Dyslexia. We think homeschooling Savannah, as we do Samuel, will be very beneficial for her! We also just learned another family (with a different adoption agency) is submitting an application to adopt Savannah.
We praise God for His leading and guidance, favor and open doors, and for the precious family and friends who have given generously and sacrificially. It was so encouraging throughout this journey to see the gifts come in the mail. Our hearts are deeply touched by the precious people who combined their resources with our savings to help bring Savannah home! We've been able to fund all of the steps we've completed so far!
We have a few urgent prayer requests...please pray:
1) For God's sovereign will to happen - only HE KNOWS what family IS BEST for Savannah.
2) Preparation for the changes ahead, for Savannah, her foster family, and Savannah's Forever Family!
3) For USCIS - I800-A approval to be granted swiftly and without hindrance.
4) For ISS/Hong Kong to give us their approval to adopt Savannah.
5) Abundant GRACE to quickly obtain and submit ALL required notarized original documents for Dossier.
6) Financial provision - we've used our resources and need to raise funds for the remaining adoption expenses, approximately $20,000. Now that we have an approved home study, we can apply for grants and scholarships, which we are doing. Unfortunately, it's not a quick process and funds are needed incrementally to complete each next step before us.
7) For us to trust God in the waiting period...this journey is refining, stretching and growing our faith and patience!
We humbly ask for you to partner with us in prayer and financially, as you feel led and are able to.
