STARTING A FAMILY STARTED YEARS AGO

Megan always wanted to adopt, and as if Ruben wasn’t already incredible enough, he was equally interested in adoption as well.

About 8 years ago, Megan’s mom was in a community Bible Study with a woman named Karen Law, an adoption lawyer who hosts free annual adoption and foster care seminars. Even though we were only dating at the time, we eagerly attended the informational meeting.

Fast forward to the spring of 2015: Megan and Ruben attend another of Karen’s seminars, this time as a married couple ready to begin a family.

The Godincidence in this situation is that a year prior we had felt it was time to find a church closer to home, as the commute to Grace had become too long (50 minutes without traffic, and up to 2 hours each way during the week). Megan was becoming friends with Ashley, the sister-in-law of a long-time friend, Erin. We had recently discovered that we only lived a few miles apart, so Ashley invited Ruben and Megan to her home church, Cornerstone Chapel. After visiting 2 other churches, we settled there. Well, it turns out that Karen Law, the adoption lawyer, also attends Cornerstone, and is part of our current adoption support network there.
