Most of life (for all of us) doesn’t usually go exactly as we plan.  So, although I have much to be grateful for, being 41 and single without kids was not part of my original plan.

I have decided to take the first step in adopting a baby.  This is definitely a journey of obedience that I have prayed over and waited on for years.

I do not go in blindly, and I know this won’t be easy in any way.  I’m praying for God’s provision and continued wisdom and obedience as I move forward.

Private adoptions through agencies are very expensive.  With that said, I am confident that if God truly has a child for me, which I believe He does, then He also has the money to take care of the adoption.  One day while sitting in church this thought became so clear to me…$30,000 is just 100 people willing to share $300.

James 1:27 states, “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”  Not all people are called to adopt, but ALL are to look after orphans.  Will you consider helping me bring one child home…to my home?  Maybe you would like to have a garage sale, or work with a small group on a creative project, or ask 10 friends to donate $30…you get the idea?  I guess what I am saying is that maybe your task is to help involve others in this endeavor.

I have set up an account at Pure Charity (www.purecharity.com/susiesandersadoption) where people can donate and have the benefit of a tax write off.  Pure Charity will send funds at appropriate times directly to the adoption agency, Children’s Connections, on my behalf.

The next step in the process is a home study.  Once my home study is complete, I will be able to apply for grants as well.  I plan on diligently taking any step needed.

My heart is for adoption, and I have heard so many incredible stories.  I am excited, joyful, somewhat overwhelmed with the details, and fearful of unknown (& possible heart breaks) along the road.

P.S.  No gift is too big or too small.  Maybe $300 isn’t the right amount…how about 300 people with $100, or 30 people with $1000, or 1000 people with $30…you get the idea.  (Or, as one friend said, 1 person with $30,000 J.)
