Here's a catch-up update!
Home study meeting #1 went well. We met at my office and talked about things like how we met, what we do for fun (this made me feel boring), and what kind of support systems we have. It seemed like a conversation that we would have with a new friend - fairly straightforward.
Yesterday we had our second meeting (at the Bethany office), and Robert and I were interviewed separately for about 1.5 hours each. This interview felt more like something that you'd have with a therapist in an initial visit: a lot of questions about childhood, relationships, strengths vs. weaknesses. We both fell that this interview went well, and were encouraged by our social worker telling us that she was excited to see our finished profile, and would want to keep us on file, even if we worked with another matching agency.
Next up, we have our third and final home study interview, the one where our social worker actually come to our house (eek!). She gave us a list of what she'll be looking for, and nothing is too crazy - fire extinguisher, first aid kit, space for a baby (which, if you've been to our apartment, you know is the biggest challenge).
We're still feeling excited, but definitely overwhelmed with making the decision of which agency to use. Our original plan of using a consultant seems like it won't work well with getting grants...so I keep reading and researching agencies. I'm a little discouraged because every agency seems to have  a down side. We want one that treats first families ethically, encourages trans-racial adoption, and doesn't have unpredictable fee schedules. And, in order to get grants, we need the agency to be non-profit. You can pray for us as we wade through all of this information - that we'll have wisdom. And, if you have any advice or experience, we want to know!
Our home study should be written up by early January, so in the meantime, I'm working on getting together all the information we'll need for grants. We're also still chugging away on our funding with working on coffee catering an event in a few weeks.
And we're looking forward to out final home study meeting on Dec. 3! We're so close to finishing these! Thank you again for all your prayers and sweet thoughts!
