December 30, 2009: Flee home in the Democratic Republic of the
Congo.
December 31, 2009 – March 2018: Wait. Pray. Hope.
Wait. Love. Trust. Wait. Wait. Wait.
April 2018: After nearly 8 years of waiting in a Kenyan
refugee camp, a family of 9 from the Democratic Republic of the Congo will be
resettled in a new home, in a new community, in the northwest corner of
Arkansas.
Two parents, two twentysomethings, three teenagers, and two
children will finally have a peaceful place to call home.
Help us prepare that home for them.
We are fundraising to ensure that this family's basic needs are met upon arrival.
When they arrive in early April 2018, these prior refugees
will be welcomed into a fully furnished home, a full fridge, with a warm meal waiting for them. For the next 12 months,
they will work with CANOPY, the only refugee resettlement agency in the state
of Arkansas, to integrate into their new community: building job skills,
perfecting their English, integrating into new schools, navigating transportation systems, and learning all
about American life.
A team of 12 volunteers will assist
CANOPY and help guide the family through this journey.
Thank you for your help in reaching our fundraising goal. We will keep this page updated as we receive more information.
