SASCU 2019 REVIEW – “YEAR of PARTNERSHIP” Posted about ago

To you, our dear Partner and Friend,

Greetings from Save Street Children Uganda (SASCU)

On behalf of the entire SASCU family, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for having walked with us in transforming the lives of some of the most vulnerable children in Uganda.

Beginning of the year (The Youth Camp)

2019 began with the first-ever youth camp at Providence Farm in Luwero. The camp brought together young people from the age of 12 and above, SASCU staff, 9 volunteers from different states in the USA. It was amazing to watch over 100 youth in attendance learn, be encouraged and grow in God’s grace and truth.

40’ Container shipped from Little Rock to Luwero

Donations were collected from all over the US and shipped to Providence Farm. The 4-month journey began in April - landed in August. Special thanks to Greg and Keaton Curtis for making this happen. The Good Earth Peeps went through a lot of sorting, packing, sorting, storing, waiting, etc.… We are all humbled by the donations and giving that was shipped all the way to SASCU!

Providence Farm GROWTH!!! (Luwero)

Providence Farm expanded its goat farm, poultry farm, planted and harvested large plots of beans, maize and other vegetables, as well as planted fruit trees and additional eucalyptus trees.

The construction of two dormitories and a fully furnished kitchen was completed by April 2019.

In May, 20 children were relocated from our Children’s rehabilitation center in Kampala to Providence Farm. The children have been able to embrace their new environment and new school. Their new home is an exciting place! The local farming village around Providence is being impacted as well. Locals are helping work, share knowledge and skills for pay or trade for goods. New friendships are being made. SASCU workers are happy to share with elderly widows and poor neighbors with the bounty God has provided.

Providence Farm Partner (PFP) sponsorship program begins:  Includes complete care of an orphaned child living at Providence (Education, meals, medical care, emotional and spiritual training by competent, loving caretakers). Also, continued investment toward sustainable projects on the farm. https://www.purecharity.com/providence-farm-partner

We praise God for the Curtis family and friends. For their whole team at the Good Earth Garden Center and Nursery. They have sacrificed and committed a great deal to the success and development of Providence Farm. We believe God has given them to SASCU for His purposes!

Providence Farm is our dream come true and of course our forever home.

Future Hope Nursery and Primary school (Kampala)

Rent has been secured for two years for the home base of SASCU in Kampala.

Presently, this location is the organization’s office and center for rescued street kids. It is also home to Future Hope Nursery and Primary School.

The school continued to offer accessible and quality Christian based education to the most vulnerable children within the communities of Kamwokya and Kifumbira.

*127 vulnerable children from Kifumbira/Kamwokya slums attend- many because of the sponsorship program that affords them this opportunity. https://www.purecharity.com/sascu-kids-sponsorship-

Resettlement

SASCU Social Workers were able to do home tracing, child and family reconciliation for 31 children. Thirty children had been fully reunited with their families. SASCU stays in contact and monitors the children’s well-being.  We strongly believe the best place for each child is in the care of a loving home with a family, they call their own.

New Beginnings

Here are a few stories of young lives that have been touched in dramatic fashion by SASCU in 2019.

Barbra (3 years old), whose name comes from the woman who rescued her after being abandoned, has found safety, love and new home at Providence. She is adored by her new family, smiles a lot, and enjoys attending baby class at African Outreach Academy in Luwero.

Brothers, Reagan and Richard are in Middle Class at African Outreach Academy. They too were abandoned and left by themselves. By God’s grace, He has provided for them through SASCU at Providence where they run, play and contribute to family life on the farm.

Nagabala Bushira was new to SASCU last year. She has been promoted to Primary three. She too has found a home and family at Providence. Here she is being taught her value and identity as a daughter of a loving heavenly Father. Please pray scars of her former life are washed away as God’s love surrounds her.

Providence Football Club

Providence Football Club, which is training children and youth in soccer. This is a great outlet the children love to participate in. It is a tremendous outreach tool for the surrounding Luwero community. Some former SASCU kids are heading up the program

Global Missions Conference in Nairobi, Kenya

In September 2019, four members from the lead SASCU Team went to the GMC Conference in Kenya. It was a great time of fellowship, learning, growing and sharing as we seek to serve God’s Kingdom. We were graciously hosted by the Hope Alive Initiatives team led by Francis and Pamela Bukachi. Bart and Kelsey McHenry from the International team were blessed to join the SASCU lead team.

WaterStep

We now have multiple M-100 Chlorine Generators and bleach makers on hand. Last summer a day of training and strategizing took place on how to put these tools to good use. We are in the beginning stages of putting this equipment to use to save lives alleviate the preventable diseases such as cholera, typhoid fever, and Hepatitis A. It will give SASCU an opportunity to impact the lives of many in the communities they serve both in Kampala and Luwero.

As we reflect on last year, we want to THANK YOU for your continued love and support! It was an amazing year and we praise God for you! There were other partnerships that played a significant role last year as well. Each one is special and unique in accomplishing the mission of SASCU. We count it a privilege to serve alongside you - Let’s keep it up!

May the Lord bless you in every way in 2020,
