Our Story

1.     Why Adoption:

We love the family God has given us.  And we believe right now there is a birth parent out there who is seeking a loving family just like ours for their baby.  We believe God is calling us to be that home.  Through his divine choreography, we trust the Lord has already made this match. So we’re moving forward with excitement, a healthy degree of nervousness, and hope.  We’re adopting a baby motivated by God’s love specifically for the fatherless among us.

2.     How We Prepared:

We have always been interested in adoption, but began to seriously talk through how God might add to our family last year.  We spent considerable time praying together, individually and with our church.  We read, and learned, and wrestled with aspects of adoption. And we've asked a lot of questions of friends who have been impacted, positively and negatively, by adoption. Through it all, we have become convinced that adoption is the path the Lord will bless to grow our family.  

3.     What We Are Doing:

We are partnering with a nationally recognized adoption agency, Bethany Christian Services, to guide us through the process.  Our plan is to adopt a child under 3, domestically, and to have an open adoption with the birth parent.  This means we are willing to welcome the birth parent into our family as well.  Over the next several months, we will be meeting with our social worker to finalize our home study, and activate our family’s profile for expectant mothers to consider us to parent their child.  Visit www.bethany.org for more information about our agency and our adoption process.

The total cost is about $33,000.  We have three sources of funding:  our personal savings, fundraising, and grants.  We are contributing a third of the cost from savings and Ligaya's new part-time job. We hope to raise funds for another third. And then we will apply for grants to cover the final third of the total cost. 

So realistically we hope to raise $11,000 from family and friends through fundraising initiatives.  Fortunately, contributions can be tax deductible through Pure Charity. 

We received a grant for $2,500 and direct donations of $1,916 so between fundraising and grants our current goal is $17,584.
