About This Field Partner

Paws for Freedom, Inc. (PFF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that places specially trained service dogs with people with disabilities. Our focus is primarily on training dogs for people who use wheelchairs and facility therapy dogs. Our program is constantly evolving to accommodate new types of applicants. We operate on a case by case basis and have placed dogs in the Midwest as well as Maryland and Alabama.

One of our greatest connections is our partnership with Horizon Academy, a private school in Roeland Park, KS for children grades 1-12 with learning disabilities. PFF provides the S.T.A.R.T. Club (Student Trainer and Retriever Teams)
program to a group of eight specially selected Horizon students each school year. These students have the important job of working with an assigned service dog in training every day after school. As a result, PFF is able to provide high quality, well-rounded service dogs to the community more efficiently. This keeps our applicant wait time much shorter than the national average. PFF is generally able to place a service dog with a recipient six to twelve months after the application packet is processed, whereas the national wait list time for most service dog organizations is three to five years.
