Donate to COVID-19 relief efforts! As part of a Marshallese Task Force formed in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic, MEI is raising funds to offset the effects of COVID-19 on the local Marshallese community!
Marshallese have one of the highest diabetes rates in the world due, in part, to forced relocation that resulted in changes to diet begun during the nuclear testing era. Individuals with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to COVID-19. As a collective culture, many Marshallese also reside in multigenerational households, which makes self-quarantine especially challenging if a family member becomes ill.
For NWA Gives this year, our team is raising funds to purchase food and supplies to deliver to these most vulnerable community members.
For more information, and to share announcements in Marshallese about prevention, symptoms, and what to do if you're feeling sick, please visit our website: www.mei.ngo/covid-19.
Also, listen to Marshallese physician, Dr. Sheldon Riklon's interview on NPR to learn more about the Task Force and the needs of the Marshallese community.
Thank you!
